A self-performing construction contractor is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to join their Virginia team. This is hands-on work maintaining and repairing the heavy equipment fleet that keeps paving and construction projects moving. ## What you will run

You will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of construction equipment, trucks, and vehicles both on-site and in the shop. This includes diagnosing failures, performing repairs on diesel and gasoline engines, and occasionally operating equipment like excavators, graders, bulldozers, pavers, and rollers. You will also manage spare parts inventory, maintain on-site stock for routine maintenance, and travel to jobsites for emergency repairs as needed.

Your day-to-day work includes operating hand tools and shop equipment like welders, cut-off saws, drill presses, vehicle lifts, and overhead cranes. You will perform pre- and post-trip inspections, keep the shop and yard organized and clean, and ensure all work meets safety standards and company policies.

## What it takes

- Minimum 2 years of heavy construction equipment maintenance and repair experience
- Valid in-state driver’s license required. CDL preferred.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures
- Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics
- Welding skills (MIG, TIG, and stick)
- Ability to work independently and follow written and oral instructions
- Comfort working in adverse field and weather conditions
- Strong safety mindset and willingness to take direction
- Reliable attendance and genuine interest in supporting your team
- Basic computer skills for electronic work orders

## Comp and benefits

Pay range: $28.00 to $40.00 per hour. Signing bonus of $4,000 available through September 2026.
