# Will Staying in One Construction Specialty Like Roofing Hurt My Chances of Moving Into Civil Construction Later in My Career?

Yes, Amundson Group recruiters caution that spending too long in a niche specialty can pigeonhole candidates, making it harder to transition later because companies may not pay senior-level compensation to someone restarting in a different scope. Moving into heavy civil or site development earlier, even at a slightly lower title, typically opens far more long-term opportunities with a wider range of contractors.
