Chicago's construction PM market is active, and pay moves based on several factors. Project size and complexity matter most. A PM running a large heavy civil or data center project will earn more than one managing smaller site development work. Years of experience, sector specialization, and relevant certifications such as PMP or OSHA credentials also push compensation higher. Employers typically want five or more years of hands-on PM experience, strong budget and schedule management, subcontractor oversight, and fluency with tools like Procore. Experience with RFIs, change orders, and permitting strengthens a candidate's position.
