# Can I Get a Construction Job with a Felony or an Old Charge on My Record?

Often, yes. Most heavy civil and site development contractors run a background check and a drug screen, and many weigh how old the offense is, whether anything is still active and how it relates to the job, especially driving record when a company truck is involved. The best approach is to disclose it to your recruiter up front. They can research what a client will see, prepare a short, factual explanation and get ahead of it instead of letting a surprise appear late in the process. Nothing pending, a clean license and the ability to pass a drug test go a long way.
