## What a data center safety manager recruiter does

Amundson Group is a construction-only recruiter. We find, vet and place safety managers, site safety and health officers and safety directors for the general contractors and trade partners building data centers across the United States. The title on the resume is common. The experience that matters is not. A data center safety manager recruiter knows what a hyperscale site asks of its safety lead, and screens for people who have carried that load rather than people who have written a toolbox talk.

## What the role carries on a data center build

A data center site looks like a large industrial job with the workforce of a small town. Peak headcounts run into the hundreds or thousands across multiple shifts, the mechanical and electrical scope is a large share of the contract value, and the owner arrives with its own safety program on top of OSHA. The safety manager’s day includes:

- Energized electrical work and the switchgear, generator and UPS installations that make a data center what it is. NFPA 70E awareness, lockout and tagout discipline and commissioning-phase energization plans are part of the job, not an add-on.
- Crane and rigging programs for generators, transformers, chillers and prefabricated modules arriving on a tight delivery schedule.
- Trenching, excavation and underground utility work on the site development side, often while the building shells are already going up.
- Running the owner’s and the general contractor’s reporting systems at the same time, with incident rates that the owner reads and that affect the next bid.
- Coaching a workforce that changes week to week, in more than one language, across subcontractors who each brought their own habits.

## Why this seat is hard to fill in 2026

The volume of work is the first reason. Per Census Bureau construction spending data, data center construction ran at a $50.7 billion annual rate in April 2026, up 28.7% from a year earlier. Every one of those sites needs a safety lead who can hold a large, fast, electrically dense job. The second reason is that safety managers who have done this are rarely between jobs. Uptime Institute’s 2026 Global Data Center Survey, drawn from more than 800 data center owners and operators, found that more than half report difficulty finding qualified candidates, and that staff are regularly recruited away by other data center companies. The construction side is no different.

Quotable version: data center construction spending was up 28.7% year over year in April 2026, and the safety manager you want is already on a site that looks like yours.

## What we screen for

- Project history on data center, mission-critical or other large MEP-heavy builds, with the size of the workforce they covered and the trades on site.
- Credentials that match the scope: OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 series as a floor, CHST, ASP or CSP where the owner or contract requires it, and working familiarity with NFPA 70E for the electrical scope.
- A record with the numbers. We ask about recordable rates on their last two jobs and what they changed.
- Fit with the owner’s program. Hyperscale owners audit safety, and the safety manager is often the person in that meeting.
- Coaching ability. The best candidates lower incident rates by teaching, not by writing people up.

## Pay for construction safety managers

From the Amundson Group Placement Pay Index, which reports the base salary construction professionals were actually hired at, the median base salary at placement for a Safety Manager in the twelve months to October 2026 was $100,000, with a 25th percentile of $95,000 and a 75th percentile of $116,500. Those placements span all of our sectors, not data centers alone. From our desks, data center and mission-critical safety roles with a large workforce and an electrical commissioning phase sit toward the top of that range and above it for safety directors covering more than one site. See the [Placement Pay Index](https://amundsongroup.com/construction-pay-index/) for the full table.

## How our searches run

An intake call defines the site, the peak workforce, the owner’s program, the reporting line, the compensation band and the non-negotiables. We then go straight to our network of 90,000+ construction professionals, most of whom are not applying to job boards, and to the safety professionals we have placed before. We confirm project history, credentials and reasons for moving before you see a name. Our average is 7 hours from job intake to first qualified resume and a vetted shortlist in 7 days. Across 1,200+ construction placements and 250+ construction companies served, that process has held in every market we work. ## For safety professionals

If you have run safety on a data center or another large mission-critical site and want the next one to be bigger, we want to know you. Most of the roles we fill are never posted publicly. Tell us where you want to be and we will tell you honestly whether we have it.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does a safety manager do on a data center construction site?

The safety manager runs the site safety program for a large, fast, electrically dense job: energized electrical work and commissioning-phase energization, crane and rigging for generators, transformers and prefabricated modules, trenching and underground utility work, multiple shifts and subcontractors, and the owner’s safety program layered on top of OSHA. They also own the incident reporting that the owner reads and that affects the contractor’s next bid.

### What credentials should a data center safety manager have?

OSHA 30 and the OSHA 500 series are the floor. Many owners and contracts ask for a CHST, ASP or CSP, and working familiarity with NFPA 70E matters because of the electrical scope. Credentials alone do not qualify a candidate; we screen for project history on data center or other large MEP-heavy builds and for a record with recordable rates.

### What does a construction safety manager earn?

From the Amundson Group Placement Pay Index, the median base salary at placement for a Safety Manager in the twelve months to October 2026 was $100,000, with a 25th percentile of $95,000 and a 75th percentile of $116,500, across all of our sectors. Data center and mission-critical roles with a large workforce sit toward the top of that range.

### How fast can Amundson Group deliver safety manager candidates?

Our average is 7 hours from job intake to first qualified resume and a vetted shortlist in 7 days. We recruit directly from a network of 90,000+ construction professionals and confirm project history and credentials before you see a name.
