On a data center the role sits closer to the critical path. The mechanical, electrical, fire protection, controls and structural models have to resolve in spaces that are packed tighter than almost any other building type, and the owner usually arrives with its own BIM execution plan, naming conventions and model deliverables. Per Census Bureau construction spending data, data center construction ran at a $50.7 billion annual rate in April 2026, up 28.7% from a year earlier, while most other building categories were flat or down.
